Challenging the Media
To make a comment on any piece of journalism, one needs to write a letter, make a phone call and/or send an e-mail.
Newspapers have names of editors and the address of the Head Office within their own pages. Any combination of the above mentioned methods is acceptable. Letter, however are probably the most effective, followed by a phone call. E-mails are probably least effective, due to their potential for abuse and anonymity.
The letter needs to be addressed to the editor rather than the journalist (although one can do both), specifying the issue and article concerned. Points raised need to be clear and if possible, backed up with evidence.
Current Affairs Programmes on TV have editors who are informed of complaints made by telephone or letter. It is useful to make a note of the programme, the date, the journalist and the person interviewed at the time. This helps in getting the information to the correct news desk and in identifying the report concerned.
