ALMAN

Alman is thirty years old, he is an Iraqi Kurd.

As a young child he grew knowing nothing of his father's political activities.

As a young man at university he had become more aware of them, however, it was the world of computers that held his attention.

Alman married in 1995, the following year his wife gave birth to a baby girl. The baby suffered from an epileptic fit; she was later diagnosed with Cerabal Palsy.

In 1997 an opposing political group were not to believe that Alman's knowledge of his father's political party was limited. They approached the young man wanting information they tried bribery. Alman wished no part of this his only interest was passing his exams in his now final year at university.

They continued to try and obtain the information they were sure Alman knew by offering larger amounts of money and eventually by threatening him. Still to no avail.

Driving to work one day several months later his car came under gunfire, Alman narrowly missed death.

Arrangements were hastily made for Alman to leave the Country. The journey ended six days later in England on 23 May 1998 at a cost of $6,000.00.

His wife and child, travelling in a different lorry, did not arrive.

Alman was later to discover that their journey had ended in Greece.

Today Alman is continuing with his studies in computer technology in his spare time. He has secured full time employment as an Information Technology trainer.

Alman's father died from a heart attack shortly after Alman's arrival in England.

Alman was granted status in February 2001.

After months of waiting and making arrangements, his wife and child finally arrive in England this Tuesday, 26 July 2001.
